My name is Jared. I am an engineer by day and a woodworker by night... usually after the kids are in bed and before the neighbors call the cops!
This channel is about all things woodworking. I do project build videos, how-to videos, shop setup and shop layout videos, tip & tricks, and tool reviews of the stuff I'm using. I will also show you how I organize and work in my small shop in 1 bay of my garage. If you want to improve your woodworking and get inspired with some creative projects and innovative designs, come join me as a fellow evening woodworker and let's go make some sawdust!

Great tips.
BUT, Yes $1.49 but you didnt mention the automatic renewal for another year at $88.00, not cool
Wow! A shop upgrade video that wasn't a series of "buy this, buy that, ...". Great advise. Thanks!
Really nice!
I hate to do it but I'll say it... I joined that WWGOA and after about two weeks I canceled. EVERY single day more and more spam telling me to BUY THEIR DVDs. Who uses DVDs anymore? Spam email after spam email. I had enough of it.
They are a classic example of not keeping up with the times.
Over the span of forty years, about half of my shop tools were birthday, Father’s Day, or Christmas gifts. The wish list can be on Amazon, or a clipboard pad. I appreciated seeing the way you approached organizing. That’s one of my big challenges but worth the effort.
Thanks! Yeah it's good to have a list somewhere that people can see when they ask you what you want. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
good stuff; thanks.
I watched the router bit part over and over and can't tell the difference between the two clips. I guess I'm not familiar with using one, but did anyone else figure that out?
<3
Thx.
Great tips. Thanks for sharing.
You are welcome!
That’s awesome! Keep it up!
I see nothing wrong when customer service suggested to purchase the parts elsewhere. They simply suggested a method to purchase the parts for the fastest possible turnaround method possible.
Found this video today. Built it in my garage this afternoon. Used heavy duty hinges to connect the side and bottom so that it would be able to flex when swinging over the uneven garage floor. Worked out well. Thanks so much for this video.
That's great, I'm glad it helped! Good work building it right away too.
The most annoying thing is when the employees start hovering around like you are committing a crime.
I know, right?
Best combo of useful, well-thought out French cleat racks/holders I have seen and I have watched a LOT of videos trying to build my list of what i want to make. Well done
Thank you!
What spear is it based off of? (It looks cool)
I always like watching these small shop videos. I have a good sized shop but I don't use my space wisely. So i like seeing these because it motivates me to use my space better and gives me great ideas on how to achieve that. Thanks for sharing.
Not a shocker wood at lowes and homedepot is junk when the railways leave pallets of it sitting on the ground for days and weeks
I'm using Odies oil as a preventative. Would enjoy seeing the difference, by your method, between it and Carbon Method
hi just i want to know what type of engineer are youlike civil or mechanical or elecrical or ....... and which engneering is near to wood working thank you man i like you videos
I'm mechanical engineer. Both mechanical and civil engineering are good foundations for woodworking!
I would put the food stuff in a cubbord to avoid them collecting dust. And I would suck the dust instead of blowing it around. Otherwise great workshop!
How did you attach the cabinets to the base? Pocket holes and screws?
This is just what we are looking for. What was you approximate cost?
so cool
First safety rule is don't wear jewellery ,especially 💍

Hey Man, just found your video / Chanel with the Sled for Router. I just finished mine. And I have to say that I am pretty new in Woodwork. Could you give me I tip how deep I should use my Router on the first pass. I have a Makita 3612 C with a 12 mm shaft and a 50,8 mm cutting ( 2 inches diameter ). But I’m not to sure how far I should go on a 2… inches Cherry with Epoxy. Thanks for any tip / help and best regards from Germany. Frank😊
Really good. Do you generally use ½" plywood for your French cleat tool holders (except for the ¾" cleat)?
Yes... for the holder itself, 1/2" is usually plenty, but I still use the 3/4" on the cleat.
@@EveningWoodworker Very good - thank you very much!
Yet another useless video I've been using Johnson's Paste wax for 50 years on all of my equipment without a single failure that's a lot of equipment. When a company launches a new product to take over an existing one the Holy Grail is is it better is it cheaper is it faster? In this case none of these products are worthy. I'll stick to what has worked for half a century.
These tips are ages old
From one evening woodworker to another: Thank you for this most Excellent idea! Subscription granted!
Thank you so much!
I'm debating (with myself) whether i go ahead and build this (yet another project) OR, how bout i finish all the other projects and therefore don't need to build this! Like if u can relate.
Haha sounds about right!
Any method is better then nothing. CM is nice but Price along with time to apply just doesnt add up in my book.
Yes, something is definitely better than nothing, and it seems like each product has a specialty... If you can afford CM, it is great, but if not, there are other options too
The only true rust prevention is use! LOL!
Haha!
Good advice. My garage shop is used as storage for a bunch of crap that belongs to kids that don't live here anymore, and the workspace is used for parking. I have more space than some, but configuring has been a struggle.
Definitely do more.
3-36 is great for garden tools and such. I think there should be a part 2 where you sand some wood next to it and attempt to measure dirt attraction. Then, use a scale to measure drag using the same weight and wood block from the wear test.
That's a good idea... I think if I were to use 3-36, I'd put a coat of Glidecote on top so it wasn't sticky.
I have always just used car wax, applied 3 or 4 times a year. My saw is vintage 1980 and no problems.
I feel like the older cast iron doesn't rust as easily as the newer stuff. The older stuff must be more seasoned.
I use paste wax on my SawStop. I have a few rules I follow. One no metal on the surface, wood or plastic only. When done using the saw I have a piece of 3/4” MDO board that covers the surface. Not MDF, MDO is medium density overlay. The MDO is a couple of inches larger than the table saw. Yes, this sometimes is a pain, because every time I use the saw I have to remove the MDO. Small price to pay for an unmarked surface. This is in a home workshop.
I cover mine too but I just use a thick piece of cardboard.
I just happened to have the right size and something I could pick up all the tools laying on it. I either move it to a workbench or a pair of adjustable sawhorses.
That definitely would help. I put a piece of plywood on one side of mine to give me more workbench space and I'm sure it helps prevent some rust. Sounds similar to your solution...
Excellent test, thanks
Great Commercial
Walmart in my area still sells Johnson paste wax.
Lucky!
Johnsons paste wax has been discontinued???? That’s news!
Sadly yes
I have used paste wax, boeshield, and exterior varnish, and the varnish was a mess. The other 2 did not work well. So I tried wipe on poly, as it is very thin, and it has turned out to be the best I have tried. Maybe the wiping on and wiping off drives it into the pores, but it has been great.
How frequently do you apply it? And does it stay smooth?
@@EveningWoodworker haven't had to reapply it, probably been at least a year since I tried it. You can hardly tell it is on there except for no spots on the ci.
I wonder about cosmoline, especially for storage of the table saw.
Hmmm... that's a new one
Been using LPS number one for over 40 years and it's absolutely fantastic I'll never use anything else
I may need to check that out...
I've been using paste wax for a few years now. On all my cast iron surfaces. And I have a strict no metal, and no liquids on any of those table tops. I have no rust, and I only reapply maybe twice a year. Application process is less than 10 minutes for all the tops, and lasts easily past the 6 months I give it. Just don't put cups, soda cans, or random tools on your cast iron tops and none of this should be a problem. I can say without a doubt, a little bit of vigilance goes an extraordinarily long way. Take care woodworkers and fabricators.
That's good advice! Vigilance is key with any method.
That's a very cool idea! I'm looking for a storage method as stacking it against the wall results in warped wood, it starts sliding forward over time, and it's always that piece in the back I need when I'm working on a project. Ha. I might be making me one of these!
If you keep this packed full, there's no room to warp!
I think testing with plain water is not far enough. Try something that will mimic sweat.
Oh man, now I need to try and capture my sweat!?
@@EveningWoodworker haha! Yes!
